PROGRAMS FOR FELLOWS AND JUNIOR FACULTY
THE COMMONWEALTH FUND/HARVARD UNIVERSITY FELLOWSHIP IN MINORITY HEALTH POLICY
FELLOWS' BIOS: 2004-2005

LENNY LOPEZ, MD, MPH
Clinical and Research Fellow, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA
Dr. Lopez’s personal experience as an ESL student led to his directorship of ESL curricula and citizenship courses at a Central American community center while a graduate student in religion and bioethics at Harvard Divinity School. This scholarly interest in health care equality and social justice led in turn to policy research with Dr. Emilio Carillo at New York-Presbyterian HealthCare. He participated in a multicenter pediatric asthma disparity study for Latino communities in New York City. A member of the Brigham and Women’s Ethics Committee, he is interested in linking clinical effectiveness to policy issues in order to improve medical access and provide effective care to underserved minorities. He is currently engaged in cardiovascular health service research and will continue to do so until 2008 as a General Medicine Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School at the Disparities Solutions Center.
Dr. Lopez received his medical degree from University of Pennsylvania in 2001, and completed his residency at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, in 2004. He received his M.P.H. at the Harvard School of Public Health as a CFHU Fellow in 2005.
