FELLOWS' BIOS: 2007-2008

CONNIE GISTAND, MD, MPH
Hospitalist, West Jefferson Medical Center, Marrero, LA
Dr. Gistand was most recently a hospitalist at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, LA and an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Section of General Internal Medicine at Tulane University Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine. This native of Louisiana, who lives in New Orleans, has long been involved with community-based projects from voter registration drives to outreach programs for the homeless. Since Hurricane Katrina, her efforts have focused on addressing Louisiana’s health care crisis and rebuilding efforts. Dr. Gistand currently serves as a member of the Advisory Board for Reach 2010, the National Black Women’s Health Project. At the state level, she has participated in discussions of health care and policy for Louisiana Medicaid programs and she was appointed to the Louisiana Governor’s Health Care Reform Panel.
Dr. Gistand received her medical degree from the University of Iowa in 1996, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital, New Orleans in 2001.
