FELLOWS' BIOS: 2008-2009

JULEA LESHAR McGHEE, MD
Psychiatry Resident, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Torrance, CA
Dr. McGhee most recently completed her Psychiatry Residency at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA. Prior to residency, she was awarded the Jeanne Spurlock Clinical Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to study incarcerated adolescents with psychiatric disorders in conjunction with the UCLA Child Psychiatry Health Services Research Division. She also assisted in research to develop a curriculum to educate Latinos and African-Americans with diabetes at the UCLA General Internal Medicine Health Services Research Division. Among her awards in medical school, she was recognized with the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award for exemplary compassion, competence, and respect in delivery of care, and with the Excellence in Psychiatry Award.
Dr. McGhee’s long-term goal is to build a career in policy, bridging the gaps between patient, provider, and policymaker. Dr. McGhee received her medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine/Charles R. Drew University in Los Angeles, CA in 2004 and completed her Psychiatry Residency at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA in June 2008.
